Pseudemys Concinna
Pseudemys concinna (River Cooter) is a large, active, herbivorous turtle, so it requires plenty of space and the right conditions to thrive.
Aquarium / Space:
Size: An adult requires an aquarium of at least 400 liters. Females that reach over 35–40 cm need even more space.
Water: Depth at least 2–3 times the length of the shell so that it can swim comfortably.
Water quality:
Temperature: 22–26 °C (adults), 24–28 °C (juveniles).
Filtration: Strong external filter, as they are very dirty.
pH: 6.5–7.5 (neutral slightly alkaline).
Basking area:
Solid rock/platform where it can be completely out of the water.
Light:
UVB lamp 5–10% for vitamin D3 synthesis (essential for shell and bone health).
Heat lamp to keep basking spot at 30–34 °C.
...More
Primarily herbivorous species: Aquatic plants (Elodea, Vallisneria, Anacharis).
Vegetables: arugula, spinach in small quantities, romaine lettuce, zucchini, carrot, cucumber.
Rare fruit (apple, strawberry).
Animal food only occasionally (worms, insects, snails), mainly for young ones.
Special foods for aquatic turtles can be given as a supplement.
Behavior:
Energetic and swimming.
Better to be housed without other species (especially smaller turtles or fish), as there may be competition or aggression.
Pseudemys concinna needs a lot of space, a strong filter, UVB lighting, a basking spot and a plant diet. Not suitable for small aquariums
