Graptemys Pseudogeographica
Graptemys pseudogeographica is known as the False Map Turtle. It belongs to the genus Graptemys, the so-called “Map turtles”, which got their name from the intricate patterns on their shells that resemble a map. It is an aquatic turtle, active and quite popular in the hobby.
Living Conditions in an Aquarium/Terrarium:
Aquarium Size: For an adult female, at least 300–400 liters are needed, for a male around 200 liters. The larger the better.
Water: Clean, well-filtered, with a powerful filter (canister type). Frequent changes are needed.
Water Temperature: 22–26 °C
Basking Area Temperature: 30–32 °C
UVB Light: Necessary for calcium metabolism and a healthy shell.
Basking area: They need an island/platform to climb and sunbathe.
Decoration: Wood, stones and large roots that allow for resting and swimming.
The False Map Turtle is omnivorous with a tendency towards carnivory when young, but as it grows it tends towards a more herbivorous diet.
Animal food: shrimp, bloodworms, earthworms, insects, fish (not often).
Plant food: leafy vegetables (lettuce, arugula, dandelion), aquatic plants.
Ready-made foods: Pellets specifically for turtles (with vitamins & calcium).
Calcium: cuttlefish bone in the water for the shell.
